The duramax v-8 is paired with the allison 1000 6-speed automatic transmission (shown at right). It allows
you to activate Tow/Haul mode simply by pressing a button at the end of the shift lever. In addition to grade
braking, the allison 1000 adds cruise braking. If you’ve set the cruise control, it detects when you’re accelerating
downhill and automatically downshifts. and with tap-shifting, you can manually select upshifts and downshifts.
