9.2 Generator storage.
Gasoline loses its properties if stagnant for too long and it leaves residues that
may clog the carburetor, preventing startup after a temporary recess. If the
equipment is not being used temporarily (2-3 months or more), all the gasoline
must be extracted from the tank and carburetor.
With the help of a manual suction pump, extract the gasoline from the fuel tank
and store it in an appropriate container.
NOTE: Do not use regular plastic
bottles, some plastics partially
decompose when in contact with the
gasoline and contaminate it. This
contaminated gasoline may damage an
engine if reused.
DANGER: Gasoline is explosive
and flammable. Never smoke or
generate any type of flame or flash
while handling gasoline.
Despite the tank is empty, there is always gasoline in the carburetor and in the fuel
hose. There are
two options to prevent the gasoline evaporation leaving debris
that could affect the proper functioning of the carburetor:
1 Completely drain the gasoline from the carburetor drain screw, this option
would have to be performed by a qualified workshop as the drain is not
accessible and it requires the removal of parts of the equipment.
2 The second option without going to a workshop would be: Every 3 months
of inactivity pour 2 liters of fresh gasoline in the tank and startup the
equipment for 10 minutes for the old gasoline is consumed and replaced by
the new one in the carburetor and the gasoline hose.
We recommend to write down the last use dates to know when to perform the
gasoline replacement.
