Dialin Mode Guidelines
Dialin Mode Status and Messages
•
Connect and disconnect messages are sent to the modem user if the port is configured to allow
such messages.
•
Messages for all dialin port connect/disconnect actions as well as any failed Telnet connect
attempts are logged to SYSMSG log.
•
The command show dialin gives a complete summary of current dialin status and displays
configured primary and backup Telnet server IP addresses per port.
SpectraComm V.34 Modem Configuration for Dialin Access
To send AT commands to the modem, you must temporarily set the port mode to Term. Then after
the AT commands are configured, set the port mode back to Dialin.

Known Issues with Dialin Mode
•
The Telnet client for Dialin has a line ending issue (CRLF vs CR) that does not work when
trying to Telnet to a Windows PC. This line ending problem interferes with Windows login
authentication. Connecting to UNIX/LINUX servers does not seem to be affected by this issue.
The ADT Dialin Telnet connection has been tested with SUN, Linux, Cisco and GDC Products:
SCIP, SCES, ADT, SCM, SCMR, etc.
•
Once TELNET is established, there may be a buffer overflow if more than 50 lines of data are
received at one time. For example, if you login into a UNIX workstation and enter the command
"
ls -l
" for a directory that has 50 or more files, some data from the listing will be lost to the
user. Use the command "
ls -l | more
" to work around this issue. Since the Dialin
application is most likely going to connect to other network equipment with a CLI, this should
not be a problem.
