Genelec 1030A Monitoring System
Genelec 1030A Monitoring System
System
The Genelec 1030A is a very com pact
bi-amplified active mon i toring sys tem,
which has per for mance comparable
to much larger sys tems. The vented
speak er en clo sure has an am pli fi er unit
set into the back. This unit contains an
active elec tron ic crossover, over load
pro tec tion circuitry and two power am pli -
fi ers, one for each driv er. The system’s
ex cel lent dis per sion and precise imag-
ing to geth er with its compact size make
it ideal for near field mon i tor ing, broad-
cast and TV con trol rooms, mobile vans,
home studios and trav el ling en gi neers.
Genelec’s unique Directivity Con trol
Waveguide™ (DCW™) tech nol o gy is
used to provide ex cel lent stereo imaging
and fre quen cy balance even in dif fi cult
acous tic en vi ron ments. The versatile
crossover controls (treble tilt, bass roll-
off and bass tilt) allow further matching
of the system to its sur round ings. A pair
of 1030A’s can produce peak acous tic
levels of over 115 dB SPL at 1 meter
measuring distance. The speakers may
be used in ver ti cal or hor i zon tal ori en -
ta tion, however, vertical orientation is
recommended.
Integrated construction
Because the amplifiers are built into
the speaker enclosure, the only con-
nec tions required are the mains supply
and the line level input sig nal, making
the 1030A very easy to set up and use.
The integrated design allows the ampli-
fiers and the drivers to be calibrated
as a sin gle unit, thus eliminating the
ef fects of com po nent tolerances and
ensuring consistent quality. The MDF
cab i net has rounded cor ners and a
hard-wearing painted outer surface.
The amplifier unit is mounted on piv-
ot ing vibration isolators for improved
reliability. This simple, rug ged con-
struc tion also makes main te nance very
easy and straight for ward.
Amplifiers
The bass and treble am pli fi ers pro-
duce 80 Watts and 50 Watts of short
term power respectively, with very low
THD and IM dis tor tion values, and
are de signed to ensure the highest
subjective sound quality cur rent ly pos-
si ble. The amplifier unit also contains
circuitry that de tects lev els above the
driv ers' safe limits and pre vents any
dam age, making the sys tem im mune to
overloads and spu ri ous signals which
digital equip ment and synthesizers
often produce.
Drivers
A 19 mm (
3
/
4
") metal dome driv er, loaded
by a pro pri etary DCW, is used to repro-
duce the high fre quen cies.
The bass driver is a high ef fi cien cy
170 mm (6
1
/
2
") polymer com pos ite cone
driver in a 6.5 liter vented cab i net. The
-3 dB fre quen cy is 52 Hz and the low
frequency re sponse extends down to 47
Hz. (-6 dB)
Both drivers are magnetically shield ed
for ap pli ca tions such as video post pro-
duc tion, where stray magnetic fields
must be min i mized.
Crossover filters
The amplifier unit contains an ac tive
crossover, a feature more com mon ly
used in large and ex pen sive control
room mon i tors. This is the ideal method
for di vid ing the input signal be tween
the driver units, and al lows the over all
re sponse of the system to be op ti mized
to an extent im pos si ble with a passive
system.
