Cleaning and disinfecting procedure for non-critical
diagnostic MR coils and pads
Inspection
•
Inspect the coils and cables for damage, such as cracks, splitting or frayed cables.

If coil or cable are damaged, contact your Service representative.

Inspect the surface of positioning aids like mattresses, pads and sandbags regularly for breaches and
tears or frays.

If damaged, remove and replace the mattress pad or sandbag. The internal sponge structure
cannot be cleaned and disinfected adequately.

Do not use patches or tape to repair tears and holes.
General cleaning instructions
1.
Prepare the enzymatic cleaner.
2.
With the coil disassembled (see section 7.5) Use a soft lint free cloth dampened with the enzymatic
cleaner, wipe all surfaces.
Warning
Do not pour any cleaning solution directly on the coil or baseplate!
Warning
Do not use automated cleaning and/or disinfection units. Follow the instructions within
this document for effective cleaning and disinfection.
Note
After the scan is completed, disconnect the coil cable from the MR system prior to
separating the anterior and posterior halves of the coil to get the patient up from the table.
3.
Use a swab or toothpick to remove dirt from grooves, joints and locks.
4.
Wipe all surfaces until all visible signs of surface contaminants are removed.
5.
Using a soft lint free cloth dampened with utility (tap) water, wipe away any residual cleaner.
6.
Allow to air dry for 2 minutes or use a soft lint free cloth to dry all surfaces.
7.
Inspect cleanliness of all surfaces prior to disinfection. Repeat above if necessary.
