5. PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
Gas supply:
3.9 bar to 6.0 bar
Therapy outlet:
Universal ‘fi r-tree’ type
Therapy fl ow accuracy:
+/- 10%
Outlet pressure:
4.2 bar (61 PSI) nominal
Pressure of oxygen from gas pipeline system or from medical regulator is
reduced to a constant pressure and used to fi ll a reservoir at a rate set by
the fl ow setting knob.
During exhalation, there is no oxygen fl ow out of the unit, so the reservoir
fi lls up to a level determined by the fl ow setting.
As an inhalation begins, the small suction at the nose makes a valve open.
A timed pulse of oxygen is delivered from the reservoir to the patieng. The
timing is designed so that inhaled gas wlos deep into the lungs.
Flows are set so that the oxygen delivered into the lung will be approximately
equivalent to the same constant fl ow. Flows into the reservoir are about a
third of the fl ow setting. This, combined with the number of settings will
normaly gibe increases in duroation of 3 to 5.
The fl ow outlet shall not be use for driving any medical device.
Note also that products colour (specially fl ow control knob) might not
follow any gas colour coding.
