1. Garmin requests a deviation from the mentioned TSOs for marking the TSO number,

Type/Class and Date of Manufacture, Deviation and Software Part Number on the
exterior of the unit. Instead, Garmin requests to include product name, part number,
serial number, and this statement on the unit’s nameplate label “TSO-C112e See IM for
Add’l Appliance Apprvls.” The installation manual will contain all equipment approvals,
classes/types/ranges and TSO deviations as required by the TSOs, and the software
part numbers for the unit will be available through electronic query within the unit. ELOS
is provided because the installation manual will list all applicable information and the
article will permanently and legibly list the Primary TSO and state “See IM for Add’l
Appliance Apprvls.” All Software part numbers can be verified through electronic query.
See Order 8150.1C Section 7-4e-4 and 8110.49 for further supporting statement of
policy.

2. Garmin requests a deviation from TSO-C145d section 7.a that requires “…provide one

copy or on-line access to the data in paragraphs…5.f through 5.h of this TSO.” for the
following reasons:
• This data is primarily concerned with defining design information necessary to
manufacture and certify, not operate or install, the equipment.
• The information in this data is considered proprietary and is not generated with the
intent for use by customers who intend to operate or install the equipment. ELOS is
provided as Garmin adequately documents the other TSO authorizations and non-TSO
functions in the Installation Manual that is provided to installers for use in determining its
certification basis and suitability for a particular installation.

3. Garmin requests a deviation from RTCA/DO-229D Change 1 Section 2.1.1.10 to use

GPS antennas that meet Garmin Minimum Performance Specifications (Document No.
004-00287-00) instead of DO-301 qualified antennas. The Installation Manual will
contain a list of approved GPS antennas as an installation limitation and instructions for
antenna installation that optimizes the field of view. ELOS is provided by the GMN-
01216 meeting RTCA/DO-229D requirements when used with a specified GPS
antenna.
