TSO-C169a

1.  Garmin was granted a deviation from TSO-C169a paragraph 4.a.2 to allow the unit to be perma-
nently and legibly marked with a serial number and not the date of manufacture.

2.  Garmin was granted a deviation from RTCA/DO-186B sections 2.4.8 and 2.5.8 to interpret Fluids 
Susceptibility (RTCA/DO-160E, Section 11.0) testing as "When Required” in order to resolve a dis-
crepancy between guidance provided in RTCA/DO-186B, RTCA/DO-160E, EUROCAE ED-23B, and 
EUROCAE ED-23C.  A limitation must be provided in the installation manual stating that the appli-
ance must not be installed in areas where fluid contamination could be commonly encountered if this 
category is not claimed in the unit environmental qualification form.   

3.  Garmin was granted a deviation from RTCA/DO-186B sections 2.4.7 to interpret Waterproofness 
(RTCA/DO-160E, Section 10.0) testing as "When Required” in order to resolve a discrepancy 
between guidance provided in RTCA/DO-186B, RTCA/DO-160E, EUROCAE ED-23B, and EURO-
CAE ED-23C.  A limitation must be provided in the installation manual stating that the appliance 
must not be installed in areas where water could be commonly encountered if this category is not 
claimed in the unit environmental qualification form.
