Helpful Hints
for your AERATED
TREATMENT SYSTEM
To assist keeping your treatment system operating at its best and within standards set by
regulating bodies, we provide the following hints:-
AVOID
•
Disposal into system of foreign objects (eg: nappy liners, disposable
nappies, tampons, napkins, condoms, plastic, flushable wipes etc.)
Any foreign or manmade object will not break down and may block the
system.
DON’T
•
Use strong caustic, alkalis, oils, bleaches, disinfectants, chemical
detergents or concentrated powder/liquids. These items kill the
purifying bacteria and will cause bad odours and damage your system
– check product list.
•
Exceed maximum design load or subject the system to hydraulic
shock loads (use of washing machine and shower/emptying of bath at
same time).
•
Use hair dyes, the peroxide in hair dyes will kill the bacteria in the tank.
If you choose to use these products at home it is highly recommended
that you rinse your hair outside ensuring no product enters the system.
•
Dispose of oils or grease in the kitchen sink
NEVER
•
Switch off power even when on holidays
DO
•
Spread your washing load over the week (where possible) 1 or 2 loads
per day. Check product list – use laundry detergents should have NP
on the packaging which means it contains no phosphates.
USE
•
Cleaning products that specify “safe for Septics”
MAINTAIN
•
Keep your irrigation area tidy, your irrigation line free of kinks and
do not roll it up, do not put pot plants etc. on top of the tank, service
technicians need access when servicing.
