Chapter 3 Installation
Pre-Installation
Unpacking the Controller
The DMC-40x0 motion controller and included internal amplifier include electrostatic sensitive components.
Observe standard precautions for handling ESD sensitive devices when handling the controller. When unpacking
the controller, follow the instructions below.
1. The DMC-40x0 controller should be handled in a way to minimize strain on the connectors. When handling
the DMC-40x0 controller, it should be held from the base-plate and metal enclosure. The DMC-40x0
controller should not be lifted using the connectors, wiring, or break-out boards.
2. Check and confirm that there is no visible damage to the controller or internal amplifier. If damage has
occurred, contact Galil Motion Control.
3. Check the labeling on the controller and verify that the controller received matches the part number of
the controller purchased.
4. Check and confirm the Molex mating connectors and terminal pins have been shipped along with the
DMC-40x0 controller. For more details on Molex mating connectors and terminal pins, see the Chapter 5
Integrated Components section.
Elements Needed for Installation
The following items are required to properly install the DMC-40x0 controller.
1. DC power supply
a. Internal Amplifier Ratings found in Chapter 5 Integrated Components.
2. Power Supply Cable
3. PC or laptop with Ethernet and/or RS-232 ports
4. Ethernet Cable (CAT5/CAT6) or RS-232 straight-through serial cable
5. Additional cables may be required for connection to motors, external amplifiers, digital or analog I/O, and
other devices. For more information, see the DMC-40x0 User Manual.
6. Safety relay or circuit breaker for AC power to DC Power Supply
