1.2. Anatomy of Weather Radar
Antenna:
The main purpose of the antenna is to focus the transmitted power into a small pencil beam
and also to receive and collect the returned signal.
Radome:
Protects the antenna from high winds, dusts, and rain.
Sub reflector:
Directs the signal from the transmitter onto the antenna and also directs the return
signal from the antenna to the receiver.
Receiver
:
Detects the signal returned from a target.
Transmitter
: Generates the microwave signal at the correct phase and amplitude. For X-band weather
radar, the wavelength of the signal is approximately 3cm.
