Chapter 7 Installing Internal Options
7.4.5 Defective Memory Disconnection Function
This server is equipped with a defective memory disconnection function.
This function disconnects the memory judged to be defective (abnormal) during Power On Self Test
(POST) to start the server. When POST is executed, if the memory capacity is discovered to be smaller
than the capacity of the memory installed, there is a possibility of memory defect.
You can check the slot whose memory is defective from the system event log.
Replacing the Defective Memory
Replace the defective memory module with a new one, referring to "7.4.4 How to Install Memory
After replacing the memory module, start the BIOS Setup Utility, select the [Configure System RAS
and Performance] submenu from the [Memory] menu, and change the [Retest All System Memory]
setting from [Disabled] to [Enabled]. Setting the item to [Enabled] releases the failed memory status at
the next startup and enables the use of the new memory module.
To confirm whether the status is released, start the BIOS Setup Utility, select the [Memory] menu
→
[View and Configure Memory Board n] ("n" represents the memory board number), and press the
[Enter] key. Check that [Board Status] is [Healthy].
For details on the BIOS Setup Utility, refer to "8.3 BIOS Setup Utility" (
