8.1 Hot-plug components
This section describes how to handle hot-plug components and how to modify
your server hardware (e.g. adding/replacing hot-plug power supply units or hot-
plug HDD modules).
The hot-plug procedure increases the availability of system operation and
guarantees a high degree of data integrity and failsafe performance.
8.1.1 Hot-plug power supply units

A redundant power supply can be created by installing a second hot-
pluggable power supply unit (optional). If one power supply unit fails, the
other unit ensures operation can continue uninterrupted. The defective
power supply unit can be replaced without interrupting operation.

CAUTION!
There are two different power supply units available: 450 W and 770 W.
A mix of both types is not allowed and might cause damage.

Power Safe Guard will be provided to limit power consumption to PSU
wattage. Power Safe Guard will be automatically activated in start-up
phase in case system power consumption is exceeding power supply
wattage. A static power capping will occur during runtime to prevent
overload. In case of Mono PSU configuration Power Safe Guard limits
power consumption to PSU wattage. In case of redundant PSU
configuration (2x450W) and breakdown of one PSU the power safe
guard will be automatically activated in order to ensure that the system
keeps continuous running. System performance will be throttled to max.

Power Safe Guard will deactivate the throttling.

CAUTION!
●
Areas around the power supply unit may remain extremely hot after
shutdown. Wait for a while after shutdown before removing the power
supply unit.

When installing the power supply unit, be sure to confirm that the
connector of the PSU is not damaged or bent.
●
Do not insert your hands in the power supply unit slot when removing
the power supply unit. Doing so may cause electric shock.
