This is also possible with the notebook switched off, if the

USB devices are hot-pluggable. This means you can connect and disconnect the
cables of USB devices while the operating system is running.
Additional information can be found in the documentation for the USB devices.
USB 3.1 generation 1 has a data transfer rate of up to 5 Gbps.
USB 3.1 generation 2 has a data transfer rate of up to 10 Gbps.
The notebook can be supplied with power via the USB port using the port
replicator which is available as an accessory.
