ELECTRICAL WIRING:
Wiring for the RTU system is very simple. All extension cables are supplied with con-
nectors to simplify the interconnections. For complete wiring diagram, refer to Figure 1
What to connect?
1) Using the extension cable supplied, provide 12VDC(red wire) and ground(black
wire) to the electronic module. The white wire on the power cable is for safety inter-
lock. A 12VDC signal needs to be supplied to this white wire to activate the RTU
governor when the pump is engaged.
2) Connect the cable for the J1587 data link. The two J1587 data link outputs are avail-
able on the ECM B connector for the ISB and ISC engines, and on the 50 pin OEM
connector for the ISM engines. This J1587 data link is also used for the diagnostic
tool; therefore the data link is available underneath the dashboard where the diagnostic
tool is plugged in.
3) Connect the pressure transducer cable to the control module using the extension
cable supplied. This extension cable is terminated with two 4-pin Deutsch connectors.
4) The 'Remote Throttle ON/OFF" input has to be grounded when the pump is en-
gaged. Refer to Figure 1.
5) The 'Selected Throttle Control Switch' or the 'Accelerator Governor switch has to
be enabled. Refer to the section entitled "Interface to ECM" for details.
5) If an additional HIGH IDLE switch is desired, connect the switch and the potenti-
ometer using Figure 7.
PUMP ENGAGED INTERLOCK:
In most installations, 12 VDC from the OK to pump signal can be used as an interlock.
Wire this 12 VDC signal to the white wire on the power supply cable. The RTU will
not become active until 12 VDC is supplied to this white wire.
HIGH IDLE:
For fire apparatus that require HIGH IDLE, use Figure 7 to complete the wiring. An
optional HIGH IDLE kit ( part no.PRO 38-H ) which bundles all required components
is available from Fire Research.
