sis can be running while a power supply is being removed and replaced, but the power supply itself should not be
connected to a power source. Otherwise, you could be injured or the power supply or other parts of the device
could be damaged. (In the NetIron MLX-32 chassis, you cannot unlatch and remove a power supply without first
releasing the cord retainer and removing the power cord.)

Built-in Mounting Brackets

The NetIron MLX-4 and NetIron MLX-8 chassis has built-in mounting brackets that enable you to front-mount the
chassis in a standard 19-inch (EIA310-D) rack. For instructions about using the built-in mounting brackets to
mount the device in a rack, see “Installing a NetIron MLX Series Router”.

Alternatively, you can use a mid-mount kit (ordered separately) to center-mount the NetIron MLX chassis using
two L-shaped mounting brackets. The mid-mount kit comes with instructions for installing the mounting brackets
and mounting the device in a rack.

Contact Foundry Networks for information about mid-mount kits.

Cooling System

The cooling system of the NetIron MLX Series is configured as described:

NetIron MLX-4: Is equipped with a fan module containing two 4-speed fans and two fan controllers to support
redundancy.

NetIron MLX-8: Is equipped with a fan module containing four 4-speed fans and four fan controllers to support
redundancy.

NetIron MLX-16: Is equipped with three fan assemblies. The fan tray located in the lower front of the chassis
contains six 4-speed fans. There are two fan assemblies located in the rear of the chassis. Each of these
contain a 4-speed fan that pulls air through the chassis. The NetIron MLX-16 is equipped with eight fan
controllers to support redundancy.

NetIron MLX-32: Is equipped with ten fan assemblies in the rear of the chassis. Each of these contains a 4-
speed fan that pulls air through the chassis. The fan trays support four settings, 50%, 75%, 88%, and 100%,
as the normal fan speeds, and the management module sets all system fans to one of these speeds.

As shown in Figure 2.13 and Figure 2.14, the fans are located in the front of the NetIron MLX-4 and NetIron MLX-
8 chassis. Figure 2.15 and Figure 2.16 show the front and rear locations of the fans on the NetIron MLX-16. Figure
2.17 sho
ws the locations of all 10 fans at the rear of the NetIron MLX-32 chassis.
