Security Policies & Firewall Objects
Security policies and fi rewall objects are used to tell the FortiGate unit which traf fi c
should be allowed and which should be blocked.
No traf fi c can pass through a FortiGate unit unless speci fi cally allowed to by
a security policy. With a security policy, you can control the addresses and
services used by the traf
fi c and apply various features, such as security pro fi les,
authentication and VPNs.
Firewall objects are those elements within the security policy that further dictate how
and when network traf
fi c is routed and controlled. This includes addresses,services,
and schedules.
