Key Features
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Specifics
• Complementing the standard four-wheel disc brakes with
biggest-ever rotors and stiffest-ever calipers is a four-channel
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
• The system enhances braking, not only by helping prevent
wheel lockup, but by automatically distributing braking
power to the wheels where it will be most effective, thanks
to Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)
• The four-channel system provides more accurate wheel
control because each wheel is controlled separately
• When computer-controlled sensors indicate wheel lockup
during hard braking, ABS electronically “pumps the brakes”
several times per second
• This helps the driver maintain steering control in hard-
braking situations, especially when the road is slippery
Mustang’s Personal Safety
System
®
— a comprehensive
safety technology package,
Mustang’s Personal Safety
System provides increased
protection in many types of
frontal crashes by analyzing
impact factors and determining
proper front airbag deployment
Fog Lamps
—
standard on Mustang
GT and available in
the V-6 Pony Package,
they help improve
visibility in inclement
weather conditions
Halogen Headlamps
—
offer excellent nighttime
visibility and a stylish
aerodynamic appearance
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
—
delivers excellent stopping
performance; helps improve steering
control in hard-braking situations.
Packaged with All-Speed Traction
Control, it’s standard on GT and
available on V-6
Emergency Trunk Release
Handle
— permits release of
trunk lid from inside the trunk
All-Speed Traction Control
—
available only with ABS, it helps
improve traction on slippery or low-
friction surfaces. It’s standard on
Mustang GT, optional on V-6 and
included in the V-6 Pony Package
SecuriLock
®
Passive Anti-theft System
— this
system helps protect against drive-away theft
through an electronically coded ignition key.
The system is designed to help prevent the
engine from being started unless a coded key
programmed to the vehicle is used. Not
compatible with non Ford aftermarket remote
start systems. Also, attaching large metallic
objects like a Mobil Speedpass
®
on the same
key ring may cause starting problems
Fail-safe Cooling System
— on GT models,
is designed to help protect the engine from
potential damage due to coolant loss.
If the engine overheats, it automatically
switches from 8-cylinder operation to
alternating 4-cylinder operation. The vehicle
operates at limited engine power, allowing
the driver to travel a short distance to a
service facility. The distance the vehicle can
travel depends on load, outside temperature
and road conditions
Available Front-seat Side-impact Airbags
— designed to protect both the head and
chest of front-seat occupants, the airbags
are mounted in the front seatbacks so they
are always in the optimal deployment
position no matter where the front seats
are located. Optional on all
models and requires
the Interior
Upgrade
Package
Available Active Anti-theft Package
— when locking and arming
the vehicle using the remote transmitter or power door lock switch
with a door open; when all doors are closed the system monitors
doors, hood, trunk, interior motion and vehicle inclination.
The system uses an inclination sensing module to guard against
tow-away thefts as well as an interior motion sensor to
help prevent “smash and grab” break-ins. The system includes
a separate alarm sounder in addition to the vehicle horn and a
60-amp-hour battery capable of sounding the alarm longer.
Locking the vehicle using the ignition key in the driver’s door
lock cylinder arms the doors, hood and trunk, but inhibits the
motion and inclination sensing features. Advise the customer to
use this method if motion is expected inside the vehicle or
during vehicle transport or when hoisting, to prevent false
alarms. Additionally, all windows must be closed for proper
motion sensing performance
High-strength
Side-door Intrusion
Beams
— add
structural stability
and absorb
energy to help
protect against
intrusions into the
passenger
compartment
