11. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
The answers to the following questions for the Final Sound Center, Rear and Front speakers, as well as the subwoofer
are described in the previous chapters:
What is the function of the particular unit?
How do I start installing it safely?
Where do I place each speaker?
How do I connect the wires?
How should I clean and maintain the unit?
More question and answers:
What is the advantage of the Final Sound electrostatic technology in comparison
with ordinary electro-dynamic loudspeakers?
The distinguishing feature of the Final Sound loudspeaker is its precision in reproducing sound and of course the
fact that they are slim, transparent and elegant looking. Vibrations of the cone generate the sound from ordinary
speakers; while in case of an electrostatic loudspeaker vibrations of the transparent diaphragm generate it. There is a
huge difference in mass of the material used to bring the air into vibration. In traditional electro-dynamic
loudspeakers the amplifier has to activate and move a voice coil and a piece of paper, plastic or metal.
The mass of the diaphragm, which an electrostatic loudspeaker uses to make the air vibrate, is so much lighter, that
it is capable of much more rapid acceleration and deceleration, resulting in a more dynamic and transparent
reproduction.
Doesn’t a Final Sound flat-panel speaker get dirty?
This depends for a great deal on the place where the loudspeakers are situated. When put next to the fireplace or
the cooker, the answer is yes. You should appreciate that a Final Sound electrostatic loudspeaker is not covered,
because that would be detrimental to the sound. Come to that, a little dust is not a problem since the stators can
easily be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.
To prevent damage to the panels and diaphragms, please use only a vacuum cleaner with low suction power.
Nonetheless, Final Sound has developed diaphragms that repel dust and dirt to a maximum extent, and
consequently guarantee the quality of sound for a very long period of time. However, should the diaphragm
become dirty after a couple of years, you can then have your Final Sound dealer clean it.
What about funny noises your flat-panel speakers might produce?
Funny noises can occur sometimes when you listen closely to the panels. These are generally only audible when the
amplifier is switched off. These are normal to electrostatic loudspeaker in general, and are absolutely harmless. These
do not affect the loudspeaker or the audio-system.
Does the Final Sound Home Theatre System have to be connected to a power supply?
The Final Sound Home Theatre System is designed to be connected to the mains for 24 hours a day. The power
consumption is negligible. Unlike vapor deposited metal coatings, the conductors on the Final Sound loudspeaker
diaphragms are completely inert, and their electrical conductivity cannot degrade. Moreover, the conductivity of the
diaphragms is independent from external factors such as the humidity of the air.
How long does a Final Sound flat-panel speaker last?
Electrostatic loudspeakers have been on the market since 1935, although materials allowing for an optimization of
the technology have only become available in the last 10 years. Final Sound uses diaphragms that last a great many
years. Final Sound has used these diaphragms for well over a period of 10 years.
