Design
The 3/2-way ball valves of the series VZBA consist of:
– a housing with the corresponding piping connectors,
– a soft-sealed ball with L– or T–shaped hole as sealing body,
– an anti-blow-out switching shaft with spindle washer and position indicator. The
slot direction on the shaft corresponds to the flow direction.
The product is available in various designs. These operating instructions describe
the following product variants:

Function
The rotation of the mounted semi-rotary drive or hand lever is transmitted to the
switching shaft of the ball valve. The switching shaft transmits the rotation to the
soft-sealed ball with L– or T–hole.
Depending on the position, the ball blocks or enables
the flow. The ball valves VZBA can be switched by 90°
into the two possible end positions. The possible end
positions depend on the mounting of the semi-rotary
drive used or of the hand lever.

Application
The ball valves of the series VZBA serve as a process valve for the flow control of
neutral, liquid and gaseous fluids in piping systems. The products are tailored to
the requirements of factory and process automation (
catalogue
www.festo.com/catalogue). They are suitable for use in the chemical and petro
chemical industries.

www.festo.com. When the device is used in dust-laden environments, surfaces
and actuators must be cleaned at regular intervals. The cleaning intervals de
pend on the amount of dust present and on the surface temperature generated
by the fluid.
The ball valves can be operated with an appropriate semi-rotary drive (flange to
ISO 5211) or hand lever.
– Operation with abrasive media and solids is impermissible.
– Before using the product, test the compatibility of the medium with the materi
als of the product in order to avoid damage to the medium (
Technical data).
– The VZBA ball valves can be used for fluids of Group 1 in accordance with EU
Pressure Equipment Directive.
– The VZBA ball valves are inappropriate for permanent intermediate positions
and for controlling the flow rate.
– Welding into a pipeline is impermissible! Use appropriate fittings to screw the
product to the pipeline.

Transport and storage
– Take the product's weight into account. Depending on the design, the product
weighs over 7 kg (
Fig. 8).
– For delivery of used products: Comply with all of the legal requirements for the
handling of hazardous substances and the transport of dangerous goods. For

– Ensure storage conditions as follows: Short storage times, storage locations
should be cool, dry and shady to prevent corrosion.

Requirements for product use
Note
Installation and commissioning is to be carried out only by qualified personnel in
accordance with the operating instructions.
– Compare the limit values specified in these operating instructions with your
actual application (e.g. medium, pressures, temperatures, masses, flow rates).
– Take into consideration the ambient conditions at the location of use.
– Operate the product only in combination with neutral, liquid and gaseous fluids.
– Use the product in its original status, without any unauthorised product modific
ations.
– Only use the product if it is in perfect technical condition.
– All applicable national and international regulations must be complied with.
