1. Move the power knob to the HI (

II

) position.

2. Rotate the mist volume knob  from the smallest to the largest

graduation to regulate the mist output.

We recommend the use of a hygrometer which reads the actual

humidity level in your room. A humidity level below 20% can be

unhealthy and uncomfortable. The recommended humidity level is

between 40% and 50%.
3. Rotate the mist outlet to the desired mist direction.
4. When the humidifier runs out of water, the transducer will

automatically shut off and the fan will keep running to dry any

residual water out of the base.

5. Turn the Power Knob to the OFF (

O

) position and unplug.

6. Before refilling the tank, empty any residual water and follow

Daily Maintenance instructions.

7. Refill the water tank with cool fresh tap water and replace onto

base.  DO NOT fill with warm water as this may cause leaking.

8. Plug the power cord into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
This humidifier holds 1 Gallon of water and will produce up to

2.8 gallons of moisture over a 24 hour period.
WARNING: DO NOT move the humidifier with water in tank or the

humidifier base. The moving action of the water may activate the

water tank’s release nozzle and overfill the transducer cavity. This

may cause the humidifier to function intermittently, or stop emitting

mist altogether. Should this occur, simply remove the excess water

from the humidifier base (see #3 under Daily Maintenance).
IMPORTANT: If you do not plan to use your humidifier for two or more

days, make sure any residual water is drained from the water tank

and base to prevent any algae or bacteria growth in stagnant water.

Make sure the tank is dry.

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions

should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric

shock, and injury to persons, including the following:
1. Read all instructions before using the appliance.
2. To avoid fire or shock hazard, plug the appliance directly

into a 120 V AC electrical outlet.

3. Keep the cord out of heavy traffic areas.  To avoid fire

hazard, NEVER put the cord under rugs, near heat

registers, radiator, stoves, or heaters.

4. DO NOT place humidifier near heat sources such as

stoves, radiators, and heaters.  Do locate your humidifier

on an inside wall near an electrical outlet.  The humidifier

should be at least 4" away from the wall for best results.

5. NEVER place humidifier in an area where it is accessible to

children.  NEVER use humidifier in a closed room,

particularly where a child may be sleeping, resting, or

playing (a closed room may result in excessive humidity).

6. WARNING: Do not attempt to refill humidifier without first

unplugging the unit from it’s electrical outlet.  Failure to

heed this warning may cause personal injury.  Be sure to

pull the plug and not the cord.

7. Never place anything over moisture outlet when the unit

is running.

8. NEVER drop or insert any object into any openings.
9. DO NOT operate any appliance with a damaged cord or

plug, after the appliance malfunctions, or if it has been

dropped or damaged in any manner.  Return appliance to

manufacturer for examination, electrical or mechanical

adjustment, or repair.

10. Use appliance only for intended household use as

described in this manual.  Any other use not recommend-

ed by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or

injury to persons.  The use of attachments not recom-

mended or sold by FamilyCare may cause hazards.

11. DO NOT use outdoors.
12. Always place humidifier on a firm, flat, level surface. A

waterproof mat or pad is recommended for under the

humidifier.  NEVER place it on a rug or carpet, or on a

finished floor that may be damaged by exposure to water

or moisture.

13. DO NOT allow the Mist Outlet to directly face the wall.

Moisture could cause damage, particularly to

wallpaper.

14. Humidifier should be unplugged when not in use.

15. NEVER tilt, move, or attempt to empty unit while it is

operating.  Shut off and unplug before removing the

water tank and moving the unit.

16. This humidifier requires daily and weekly maintenance to

operate appropriately.  Refer to daily and weekly clean-

ing procedures.

17. NEVER use detergents, gasoline, glass cleaner, furniture

polish, paint thinner, or other household solvents to clean

any part of the humidifier.

18. Excessive humidity in a room can cause water condensa-

tion on windows and some furniture.  If this happens, turn

the humidifier OFF.

19. Do not use humidifier in an area where humidity level is

in excess of 50%.  Use a hygrometer, available at your

local hardware store or through FamilyCare

®

, to measure

the humidity.

20. DO NOT attempt to repair or adjust any electrical or

mechanical functions on this unit.  Doing so will void your

warranty.  The inside of the unit contains no user service-

able parts.  All servicing should be performed by qualified

personnel only.

21. Never place housing under water flow or immerse in

liquids.

22. Do not plug in the cord with wet hands: electric shock

could result.

23. Do not place under overhanging surfaces.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

INSTRUCTIONS

Humidifiers provide comfort by adding moisture to dry, heated indoor

air. To get the most benefit from the humidifier and avoid product mis-

use, follow all instructions carefully, specifically the operation, care and

maintenance guidelines. Please note this is an electrical appliance and

requires attention when in use.
In addition, if you do not follow the recommended care and mainte-

nance guidelines, micro-organisms may be able to grow in the water

within the humidifier’s tank and become airborne.
The following cleaning procedures must be routinely followed in order

to ensure proper, efficient operation of your humidifier. Proper mainte-

nance is essential to the continued use of your unit and the avoidance

of algae and bacteria build-up.

DAILY MAINTENANCE
1. Before cleaning, turn power knob to the OFF position and unplug

the unit.

2. Remove and empty the tank. Rinse thoroughly and wipe the inside

of the humidifier tank with a clean, damp cloth. Refill with cool tap

IMPORTANT: To reduce the emission of minerals, it is

recommended that the Water Purification Filter

(Model Microban

®

UH325)  be purchased.

USING A WATER PURIFICATION FILTER

The Water Purification Filter (UH325) is used to retain minerals in

your water and provide a clean moisture output. The filter life is

determined by the average daily use of your humidifier and the water

hardness in your area. Areas with hard water will require more

frequent replacement of the filter. It is strongly recommended that

the filter be replaced every 1-2 months (depending on use), or when

white dust is emitted from the unit.
Please refer to the enclosed Humidifier Accessory Card included with

your humidifier. It is recommended that you order your replacement

filter at once so you will have a fresh filter available when necessary

.

TO USE A FILTER:

1. Turn the Power Knob OFF (

O

) and unplug the humidifier.

Remove the tank, drain any water from the base.

2. Remove the protective bag from the new filter and install the filter

into the base (see fig. 2). Replace the tank, and plug the cord into

the electric outlet. When installing the filter for the first time,

wait 15 minutes for the water to flow through the filter before

switching the unit ON.

You can obtain a Water Purification Filter (UH325)

through your local retailer or by

calling 1-800-546-5637

.

4. Re-install the Water Purification Filter (if being used) and replace

the tank on the base.

WEEKLY MAINTENANCE
A. To Remove Scale
1. Repeat step 1-3 above.
2. Partially fill the base with Holmes Cleanse Clean™ model S-1710

(available by calling 1-800-546-5637) as instructed on bottle,

or with one 8 oz. cup of undiluted white vinegar. Let solution stand

20 minutes, cleaning all interior surfaces with a soft brush.

Gently scrub the area around the transducer with a soft brush.

Be careful not to damage the sensor probe. Wipe the surfaces of

the filter with the same cleaning solution.

3. Dampen a cloth with undiluted white vinegar and wipe out entire

base to remove scale.

4. Rinse with clean warm water to remove the cleaning solution before

beginning to disinfect the tank.

B. TO DISINFECT TANK

Do in area that will not be damaged by bleach.
1. Fill tank with 1/2 teaspoon of chlorine bleach and 1/2 gallon

of water.

2. Let the solution stand for 20 minutes, swishing every few minutes.

Wet all surfaces.

3. Empty the tank after 20 minutes, and rinse well with water until the

bleach smell is gone. Dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.

5. Re-install the Water Purification Filter (if being used) into the base.
6. Refill the water tank, place onto the base, plug in, and turn the

power ON.

USING THE MIST VOLUME CONTROL

Turn the mist volume knob clockwise as far as it will turn to achieve

the highest mist setting.  In this setting, the humidifier will run

constantly, and produce the greatest amount of moisture.
To lower your desired mist level, simply turn the knob

counterclockwise to choose your setting.
Depending on the size of your room and your personal comfort, you

will set your mist volume control at different levels.  If condensation

forms on your windows or walls, or your measured room humidity

reads above 50% by use of a hygrometer, turn off your humidifier,

or lower your mist volume control level.
