Installing the 1600/3600/3900 Platform
Platform Guide: 1600, 3600, and 3900
2 - 1
Installing and connecting the hardware
After you have reviewed the hardware requirements and become familiar
with the 1600/3600/3900 platform, as described in
, on page 1-2, you can install the unit.
The 1600/3600/3900 platform comes with two types of rack mounting kits:
stationary front-mounting and sliding rail-mounting. An advantage of
installing the sliding rail mounting kit is that you can then slide the unit in
and out of the rack as needed.
The tasks you need to perform to install the platform differ, depending on
which type of rack mount you decide to use or which type of cabinet unit
you are installing into (single two-post cabinet or four-post cabinet):
◆
Front-mounting kit
If you want to install the 1600/3600/3900 platform using a
front-mounting kit, you need to install the front-mounting brackets
directly onto the unit, install the unit into the rack, and then connect the
peripheral hardware and the interfaces. For detailed information, see
Installing the unit using a front-mounting kit
◆
Rail-mounting kit
If you want to install the 1600/3600/3900 platform using a rail-mounting
kit, you need to install the inner rails onto the unit, install the outer rails
into the rack, install the unit into the outer rails, and then connect the
peripheral hardware and the interfaces. For detailed information on
installing a rail-mounting kit and installing the unit into the rack, see
Installing the unit using a rail-mounting kit
manufacturer’s installation instructions included with the rail-mounting
kit.
Once you have completed these tasks, you can then connect the cables and
other hardware. For more information, see
Connecting the cables and other
Whether you are using front mount or rail mount, you should read the
following general recommendations before proceeding with the installation
of the 1600/3600/3900 platform.
General recommendations for mounting a unit in a rack
Although not required, a 1U space between units makes it easier for you to
remove the unit from the rack in the event that the unit requires service. A
1U space between units also provides additional cable routing options.
We recommend 100 mm spacing from the front panel of the unit to the rack
front or rack door. This provides enough room for you to route the cables
without bending them excessively.
