ARX®4000 Hardware Installation Guide

Safety Instructions

When installing or operating the switch, observe the following safety
guidelines to avoid personal injury or damage to equipment:

DANGER

Never assume that power is disconnected from a circuit; always check.

Before installing the switch, locate the power button on the front of the
switch and make sure power is off. (LED not illuminated.)

Disconnect any power or external cables before moving the switch.

Disconnect the power cord before servicing the unit to avoid electric shock.

Recommended Tools and Equipment

The following tools and equipment are recommended for unpacking,
rack-mounting, and installing the switch:

• Utility knife (optional, for the packaging)

• Phillips screwdriver

• Laptop or PC to use as a serial console connected to the serial console

port

• Customer-supplied standard 19-inch EIA rack

Verifying Shipment

The ARX control plane and data plane are shipped in separate boxes. In
addition to the component, each box also contains:

• Power cords (2)

• Set of slide rails and the screws necessary to attach the rails to a rack

• Instructions for installing the slide rails,

Slide Rail Installation

. These

instructions also explain how to install the switch into the rails.

The data plane also contains an Accessory Kit. To verify the contents of the
Accessory Kit, see Verifying the Accessory Kit Items, on page 5-5.

The following unpacking instructions apply to both components.
