There are three main
versions of Texas Hold
‘Em: limits, pot limit, or
no limit. The play of the
game is the same in all
three, except for the rules
governing betting.
The Limits Game
In Limits Texas Hold
‘Em, limits set the amount
of the bet in each round.
During the first and sec-
ond betting rounds, the
lower limit is used. The
upper limit is used in the
third and fourth betting
rounds. If the limit was
“10-20,” $10 would be the
bet amount in betting
rounds one and two, and
$20 would be the bet
amount in betting rounds
three and four. Typical
limits are 10-20, 20-40,
50-100 and 100-200—
although you can choose
any limits you wish.
The Pot Limits
Game
In Pot Limit Texas Hold
‘Em, the maximum allow-
able raise is the size of the
pot. The size of the pot is
defined as the total of the
pot in the middle, plus all
bets on the table—plus the
amount the active player
must first call before rais-
ing. The minimum allow-
able raise is the amount of
the previous bet or raise.
