9• BREAKDOWNS AND REMEDIES

ABNORMAL OPERATION

PROBABLE CAUSE

REMEDY

The engine does not start

Fuel tank empty

Fill with petrol

Throttle regulation lever not at choke with cold engine Set throttle regulation lever to choke

Badly connected spark plug cap

Connect the spark plug cap

Fuel pipe blocked

Have the fuel pipe cleaned by a specialist workshop

Air has penetrated the engine because the carburettor

is loose

Tighten the fixing screws

Petrol valve closed

Open petrol valve

The engine does not start ; there is a smell of

petrol

The engine is receiving too much fuel

Put the throttle on MAX do not use the choke

Air filter clogged

Clean the air filter

Engine runs erratically, misses

The engine is running with the choke on

Take throttle regulation lever out of choke position

Ignition cable loose

Allow the engine to cool and carefully connect the

spark plug lead
