Installation Guide for Optional Products

Select optional products that are to be installed in the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system
according to the customer's operating environment.
This section provides a guideline for how many hot spares should be installed.

4.3.1

Hot Spares

Separate hot spares are required for each type of drive that is installed (SAS disks, Nearline SAS
disks, and SSDs). The capacity of each type of hot spare must be equal to the largest capacity of
the same-type drives.
The number of required hot spares is determined by the total number of drives.
The following table shows the recommended number of hot spares for each drive type.
