SYSTEM TESTS
LOW-LEVEL TESTS
The following low-level tests verify the functionality of
the PC's ability to control the Audio Tower's audio matrix
circuitry. It also verifies the line coupling circuitry and the
speaker amplifier circuitry. Cross-point audio matrix
switches are controlled (opened and closed) using the
CTEST.EXE
program. These low-level tests may be
performed before any database initialization procedures.
The tests do not represent a complete functional test of the
console.
Recommended Test Equipment
•
Audio Signal Generator
(600-ohm output impedance)
•
Handheld Multimeter
•
Oscilloscope
•
600-Ohm Resistor
•
Test Leads
•
RJ-11 Modular Plugs (terminated with test leads)
Set-Up Procedure
❏
Verify all equipment has been interconnected in
accordance with the previous installation
instructions presented in this manual.
❏
At the Audio Tower, temporarily disconnect the
RJ-11 plugs from the
LINE A
and
LINE B
modular
jacks on the Audio PA Board (#1).
❏
Verify the Audio Tower and the PC are powered
up.
❏
Start the CTEST program by typing
CTEST
followed by an <Enter> at the MS-DOS prompt.
The current directory must be C:\UTIL. A
copyright message and then the CTEST screen will
appear.
Test Procedure
1.
Send
LINE A
Input Audio to
SPEAKER A
❏
Using the audio signal generator, inject a 0 dBm
1kHz tone into the
LINE A
balanced input on the
Audio PA Board (#1). The balanced input is the
two outside contacts on the RJ-11 modular jack
(yellow and black wires in a modular cable).
❏
Send the
LINE A
input to the
SPKR A
output by
typing the following commands:
<F2>
6771
<Enter>
<F2>
7771
<Enter>
<F2>
8731
<Enter>
NOTE
If no headset is connected to the Audio Tower the
initial audio matrix switch settings will route the
LINE A
input to the
SPKR A
output. Therefore, in
this case, execution of the above commands is not
necessary.
❏
Verify the 1 kHz tone is heard in Speaker A.
CTEST's VU meter should indicate yellow.
❏
Adjust the select speaker (Speaker A) volume knob
up and down and verify the volume changes. This
knob is the left-most volume knob on the Volume
Controller Box.
