Series Voltage Drop of Luminaries
Series Voltage Drop is the progressive loss of voltage that occurs when feeding a
string of parallel-connected lamps. The drop in voltage is due to electrical
resistance of the conductors and is a function of conductor gauge, distance from
the driver and load current. EPRAD lamps will tolerate voltage drops of up to 25%
with no change in brightness.
Following are some voltage drop calculation examples. The results were obtained
using the EDR Software Program (http://edreference.com)
Voltage Drop Calculation Examples
VD Example 1 : 24 EPRAD PAR38 lamps in a single string of 260 feet, 12AWG wire.
The calculated voltage drop at the last lamp is 13.73%
