DEF is mandated by the United States (US) Department of

 

Transportation (DOT) to reduce pollution generated by diesel 

engines.

 

NOTES

 

• The DEF tank is pressurized so exercise caution when

removing

 t

he cap.

• Add DEF if dashboard gauge indicates a low level.
• Purchase DEF at truck stops or auto supply stores.
• It is suggested that you carry a spare 2.5 gallon container as a

precaution 

– 

the engine will not run without DEF.

• DEF will begin to crystallize at 12 degrees Fahrenheit but will

not be damaged should it freeze with temperatures below 12
degrees. 

If the DEF is frozen and/ or unable to be transported

to the engine, the engine will not run.

ENGINE AND CHASSIS

 

The amount of DEF in the DEF tank is indicated by the square green 
lights located under the fuel gauge. Each light represents about a 
quarter of the tank’s capacity or roughly 3 gallons.
