TROUBLESHOOTING  CHART 

Symptoms

Compressors not 
running 

No power 

Restore power to unit. 

Blown Fuse or breaker 

Replace fuse or reset breaker 

Low voltage 

Find and correct reason for low voltage 

Faulty control system  

Check and repair as required 

Open safety contacts 

Check safety controls and identify and correct 
problems 

Ambient temperature below 
design 

Check low ambient control and adjust as necessary 

Open control sensor 

Check and replace as necessary 

Compressor cycles  

Low refrigerant charge. Unit 
cycling on low-pressure 
control.  

Find and repair leak, evacuate and recharge 

Low voltage to compressor 
contactor.  

Check voltage at contactor. Repair as required. 

Control relays 
chatter or solenoid 
valves not 
energized 

Voltage drop in field wiring 
to solenoids or thermostat.  
(greater than 10%)  

Check voltage at solenoid or relay when it is 
energized, If it is less than 10% of rated voltage, 
check wire size, or determine cause and repair as 
required.  

Primary voltage not within 
10% of unit rating plate.  

Have electrician check and repair as required.  

High Head Pressure  Dirty Condenser 

Clean or wash 

Flattened or hail damaged

volume.  Check for dirty filters, closed fire 
dampers, defective VAV boxes etc.  

Plugged liquid line drier 

Check temperature drop across drier. Replace 
drier as required.
