1.0 IMPORTANT RECEIVING INSTRUCTIONS
Visually inspect all components for shipping damage. Shipping
damage is not covered by warranty. If shipping damage is found,
notify carrier at once. The carrier is responsible for all repair and
replacement costs resulting from damage in shipment.
2.0 SAFETY, CARE AND USE
• Wear safety goggles when using wrench.
• Use wrench only for applying torque to bolts.
• Always follow generally accepted bolting procedures.
• Do not exceed tensile strength of bolt.
•
Do not adjust torque beyond the upper or lower limits of the
torque indicator dial.
• Apply only hand pressure to wrench handle.
•
Do not allow wrench bar to contact, push against or support
objects during use.
• Do not drop wrench on ground.
• Do not strike objects with wrench.
• Wipe wrench clean of dirt and debris after each use.
• Never immerse wrench in gasoline or solvents.
• Do not use wrench or sockets if damaged.
• Periodically have a qualifi ed facility check wrench calibration
and re-calibrate if required.
IMPORTANT:
Do not extend the length of the MTW250. Use of an
extender bar will result in the application of a greater amount of
torque than displayed in the torque window. Damage to wrench
and/or property may result.
3.0 OPERATION
DIRECTION OF ROTATION
Push the square drive through wrench to achieve the desired
direction of rotation (clockwise or anti-clockwise). See Fig. 1.
Then, install socket (user-supplied) on the square drive.
SETTING THE TORQUE VALUE
1. Hold handle sleeve and rotate the handle lock anti-clockwise
one-third turn to the UNLOCK position. See Fig. 2.
2. Rotate handle sleeve until the desired torque setting is
displayed in the torque window. See Fig. 3.
Important:
Ensure that the setting is approached from a lower
value.
3. When the desired setting is indicated, rotate the handle lock
clockwise one-third turn to the LOCK position.
Note:
The scale of the micrometer-type torque dial is calibrated
in both newton meters (Nm) and foot pounds (lbf-ft).
TORQUE APPLICATION
To tighten the nut, apply force on wrench handle fi rmly, until
the tool mechanism makes a “clicking” sound and the tool is
felt to “give”. This indicates that the set torque value has been
achieved. See Fig. 4.
STOP applying force immediately when the wrench clicks. As
hand pressure is released, the wrench will reset automatically.
If tightening a series of nuts in a sequence, repeat the above
procedure as required, until all nuts are fi nal tightened to the
proper torque.
IMPORTANT:
During tightening, always apply force in one
smooth and continuous movement. Do not apply force in small
back-and-forth increments.
