On your purchase of this EMPHASER retrofit system for BMW vehicles. If you plan on install-
ing this speaker system by yourself, please read the following instructions carefully before
you attempt the installation. For any further information about this product, please contact
your authorized EMPHASER dealer.
ABOUT THIS LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM
All components of this loudspeaker system have been carefully selected and precisely matched.
The Aluminum membrane of the midrange speaker is due to its hardness and the high natural
resonance frequency ideally suited for a detailed and extremely low-distortion reproduction
quality in the intended area of application. The 25 mm Silk dome tweeter convinces with its
brilliant sound and the ability to produce even the finest musical details. At the heart of the
systems are the elaborately designed crossovers: the parts have been defined in intensive
test series in the laboratory as well as in the vehicle, to achieve the best possible phasing of
the tweeters and midranges in the crossover frequency band. The result is immersive musical
enjoyment with vivid natural voices and instruments and their positioning on the imaginary
soundstage as well as an impressive depth of soundstage. EMPHASER wishes you a lot of
fun with this outstanding speaker system.
SET CONTENT
Please check if all the parts listed below are in the packaging. The system consists of the
following individual components:
■ 2 woofers (EM-BMWF1 only)
■ 2 tweeters (EM-BMWF1 only)
■ 2 coaxial speakers (EM-BMWR1 only)
■ 1 instruction manual
Please contact your authorised EMPHASER dealer if the contents of this set are incomplete
or if parts have been damaged in transit.
ASSEMBLY
This kit is compatible with a wide range of BMW vehicles. For step-by-step instructions on
how to correctly remove your vehicle's original speakers, please contact your BMW service
workshop. The following instructions for the BMW F30 model are intended as an example for
all models. For the EM-BMWF1, a tweeter mount is required in the mirror triangle. You can
obtain this component from your BMW service workshop if it is not already in your vehicle.
Use a plastic wedge to carefully pry out the trim strip on the door handle. Start at the lower
end and work your way forward piece by piece. This trim strip has a hook at the rear end in the
shape of an "L". Therefore, first pull the trim strip towards you, until all the clips are released
and then pull it forwards to be able to remove the trim strip completely. Now loosen the two
screws that are located at the red arrows in the picture.
In the last step, carefully remove the door panel off the door with a wide plastic wedge. It is
recommended to start at the bottom and work your way up carefully. Also pull the door panel
in the window area away from the window towards you to release the metal clips. Once all the
plugs and clips have been released, slide the trim upwards over the door pin.
If you want to remove the trim completely, remove the Bowden cable from the door opener
and unlock the connector of the window regulator console.
The original speaker is fixed with three Torx screws. Replace it now with the EMPHASER
speaker.
EM-BMWF1 ONLY
Midrange speaker mounting
Connect the original plug to the supplied EMPHASER crossover to the input cable "Input".
Connect the cable marked "Woofer" to one of the two free plugs on the EMPHASER speaker.
Tweeter mounting
The tweeter mount is integrated into a trim piece that frames the entire window and is secured
with brackets. The easiest way to remove this trim is to start at the mirror triangle and loosen
these clips piece by piece.
Remove the tweeter from its mount and click in the EMPHASER tweeter. Feed the cable back
down out through the structure provided on the foam piece. Reattach the window frame trim
to the window frame in reverse order. Connect the tweeter cable to the still free "Tweeter"
connector of the EMPHASER crossover.
Reassemble the door frame trim in reverse order.
EM-BMWR1 ONLY
Connect the plug of the original speaker cable to the matching counterpart of the included
EMPHASER crossover. Connect the other wire of the crossover to one of the two free plugs
on the EMPHASER speaker.
Mount the door panel in reverse order.
