ENGLISH
THE EC METER
“E.C”. is the abbreviation for Electrical Conductivity. This conductivity is a
measure of the salt contents of a solution. When the salt content is
higher, the capacity of the solution to conduct electricity is better. The
conductivity also increases when the temperature rises. Consequently,
the meter is temperature compensated so that a correct value is given
for the salt content at any temperature.
FUNCTION
The EC meter consist of two components, i.e.: the measuring flask and
the meter, which have the following function:
MEASURING FLASK
The sample which conductivity is to be measured is poured into the flask.
A small electric current is applied to the electrodes and the voltage
generated is measured. The temperature of the sample is measured by
a built in temperature probe.
THE METER
The electronics in the meter process the data from the electrodes and
automaticly applies temperature compensation . The conductivity
appears on the display in milli Siemens.
MEASURING
It’s imported that the electrodes are clean in order to achieve a correct
measurement. Before using the flask always rinse any salt residue from
the flask using a small volume demineralized water. The measuring
procedure is as follows:
- Fill the flask to the top with the sample to be measured.
- Wait a few minutes to allow temperature probe to assume the
temperature of the sample.
- Press the button and read off the EC value
- Rinse out the flask with demineralized water.
