9.2.4 Replacement of the special protection glass
Whenever the special protection glass is “dirty”, its performance will decrease; thus, whenever a significant concentration o f metal
sprays hits its surface, the glass will need to be replaced.
Periodically check the protection glass of the microscope lens, located inside the welding chamber; this special glass, which becomes
non-reflective at 1064 nm, is fastened to the optical path exit by an aluminum ring.
Please follow the indications provided below to replace the special protection glass (Fig. 9-1):
•
Use a 3mm hex head wrench to unscrew the two fastening screws of the support ring;
•
Remove the ring from the optical unit and extract the glass;
•
Clean the surface with a soft and non-abrasive cloth;
▪ Do not attempt to remove any metal spray residues;
INFORMATION!: We recommend replacing the protection glass if it is stained by a significant amount of metal sprays, given that
the laser pulses may further overheat it and even cause it to crack.
•
Insert the new glass in its seat, carefully return the ring to its position and fasten the previously removed screws
