Step 7: Install the chain guide tube.
1)
Attach the chain guide tube bracket to
the 30 mm bolt that goes through the
middle top motor plate mount.
Use 2 of the included M6 washers as
spacers between the bracket and the top
rear clamp. Finish with an m6 nut and
lock washer. Photo 18 shows the bracket
minus the guide tube. Photo 19 shows
the guide tube installed.
You may be tempted to leave the chain guide
tube off. We don’t recommend doing this. Its
purpose is to damp chain shake which can
cause the chain to come off the mid-sprocket
under some conditions.
Step 8: Install chain Idler.
1)
Replace the original double chain idler
with the included single idler.
Attach the
idler to the original mounting location using an
M6 x 16 mm hex head bolt. Place the M8
washer between the idler and frame.
Step 9: Install the rear chain.
Set the rear derailleur to the largest cog.
1) Use the supplied 76 inches of SRAM 9-
speed chain. If your bike has an 8-speed
rear cassette, it’s usually OK to use 9-
speed chain.
2) Thread the chain around the mid-
sprocket, through the chain guide tube,
through the idler, around the rear cas-
sette, and through the rear derailleur
cage as shown in Photo 20.
Shorten the chain, if needed, using your chain
breaker tool. With the chain around the larg-
est rear cog, it should look approximately like
photo 21.
Join the ends of the chain with the included
Powerlink™ connector.
