C BUS STRUCTURE
The VME base board can access the I
2
C bus devices through two singals on PCI Express expansion connector
J3.
The following devices are connected to the I
2
C bus:
• Serial EEPROM for VPD
• XMC modules VPD
• Temperature Sensor
• Second XMCspan board
SERIAL EEPROM FOR VPD
The XMCspan has an 8 KB dual address serial EEPROM. The EEPROM contains vital product data (VPD) config-
uration information, which may include the following information, among others:
• Manufacturer
• Board Revision
• Build Version
• Date of Assembly

CLOCKING SCHEME
A 100 MHz PCI Express reference clock is provided to the XMCspan through expansion connector pins J3.27
and J3.29. The reference clock is used to generate all other PCI Express clocks using an ICS9DB108, which is
IDT's 8-output differential buffer for PCI Express.
