1 EMT6 Thermistor Overload Relays for Machine Protection
1.1 Foreword
In addition to the regulations in accordance with EN 60079-14 and
VDE 0165-1, separate regulations for the corresponding types of protection
apply to the protection of motors in potentially explosive atmospheres.
The standard EN 60079-7 requires additional measures for motors with
ignition protection type “e” “Increased Safety”. These measures provide a
higher degree of safety and prevent impermissible high temperature and
development of sparking and arcing on the motors, which usually does not
occur under normal operating conditions. The motor-protective devices for
this that are themselves not located in the Ex e area must be certified by an
accredited certification body.
For motors in explosive dust-air mixtures, standard EN 60079-14 specifies
additional measures.
Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX) on the approximation of the laws of the
Member States concerning devices and protective systems intended for use
in potentially explosive areas has been in force since 06.30.2003.
EMT6-K, EMT6-KDB, and EMT6-DBK thermistor overload relays for
machine protection are certified by DEKRA EXAM in accordance with
Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX).
