SAFETY
INSTALLATION
It is important this instruction manual is retained with thw back-rest for future reference. Should the
Back-Rest be sold or transferred to another owner or should you move house and leave the Back-Rest
always ensure this instruction manual is available for the new owner to know the functioning of the
Back-Rest and the relevant warnings. The warnings are important and MUST be read before installing or
using the Back-Rest.
!
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
It is imperative the installation is carried out safely and correctly and is undertaken by an experienced
professional familiar with building construction.
Ensure there are no pipes or electrical cables that could be damaged when fixing the unit to the wall.
When fixing to a “studded’ or non solid wall, reinforcement may be required to ensure the Back-Rest will
take the person’s weight and operate safely.
The Back-Rest must be used with a belt-type bathlift such as Model CRM20059. The weight limit and
fixing that applies to the bathlift will also apply to this Back-Rest. Bathlift maximum lifting weight is 127
kgms (280 lbs) (20 Stone).
Before fitting ensure the operating space in which the Back-Rest will move is clear of any obstructions,
including the edges of the bath.
Do NOT allow children to play with this Back-Rest. It is not a toy.
If children are required to use the Back-Rest, they should be supervised at all times.
The Back-Rest provides a firm support to the bather providing the locking mechanism is correctly located
and the security latch is in position. Failure to do so will mean the Back-Rest will move away when leaned
upon, ENDANGERING THE BATHER.
Do not clean the cushion with bleach or similar skin irritating substance.
If you have any doubt as to your ability to use this Back-Rest unattended, then you should ensure that a
capable carer is present.
The Back-Rest safety latch should only be released when the bather is sitting at the bottom of the bath.
When used for the first few times, the bather should accustom themselves to leaning well forward to
release the safety latch, then move the Back-Rest clear to the rear of the bath.
DO NOT LEAN AGAINST
the Back-Rest and release the safety latch.
This may cause injury.
THE PRODUCT
This Back-Rest model CRM500 has been
designed to be used with the belt-type bathlift
Model CRM20059 as shown in fig 1. It is also
adjustable to fit standard 700mm and up to
800mm width baths.
OPERATING THE BACK-REST
STEP 1
The Back-Rest provides back support for the
bather when sitting on the belt and can also be
moved to the rear of the bath to act as a headrest.
The Back-Rest provides the bather with back
support whilst positioning themselves onto the
bath and as they lower themselves into the bath.
The bather may then continue bathing in the
sitting position or by leaning forward and releasing
the security latch allowing the
Back-Rest to be moved to the rear of the bath
as shown in fig 2.
With the Back-Rest now providing a headrest,
the bath is clear for the bather to enjoy a leisurely
“soak” in the normal manner.
When bathing is finished, the bather will resume
the sitting position, lean forward and slide the
Back-Rest to engage the safety latch in the
correct position as shown in fig 3. The
Back-Rest is now in its support position and
can be used for the bather to exit the bath.
Ensure the Back-Rest is correctly positioned
close to the belt. Check that the security latch is
correctly positioned as shown in fig 4. THIS IS
VERY IMPORTANT.
The bathlift may now be used with the Back-Rest
providing extra support whilst getting on and as
you travel to the bottom of the bath.
After lowering into the bath the bather may require
the Back-Rest to be moved to the rear of the bath
for it to be used as a head-rest.
To do this:
1. Lean forward - VERY IMPORTANT
2. Release the security latch by rotating the
knob. See fig 5.
Fig 5
1. Push the slider using the handle near to the
wall and slide towards the rear until it stops
against the bath. See fig 6.
Fig 6
Relax and enjoy a refreshing bath.
Move to a sitting position on the belt. Push the
handle forward until its reaches a stop. Pull the
handle away from the wall to allow the secutiy
latch with its knob to be retated and dropped back
into position to lock the Back-Rest as in fig 4.
Raise yourself up with the bathlift and exit the
bath safely.
