The VIP Plus remote control
To use the VIP Plus remote control, charge the remote control using the USB lead provided. Once the red LED on the left stops
flashing, it has completed charging. Now insert the USB dongle into your DroidBOX (or whichever device you want to use the
VIP Plus with).
You should now find that you can control your device from the remote control. If an on screen cursor doesn’t appear, try
pressing one of the direction keys around the OK button. If that doesn’t help or you want to turn off/on the Air Mouse
function (where moving the remote control around in front of you will move the onscreen cursor), press the button with a
cursor and power icon on it, middle button at the bottom. To re‐enable it, press the button once again.
On a related note, when you flip the remote control over to access the QWERTY keyboard, the Air Mouse function is
automatically turned off until you turn the remote back over again.
On our DroidBOX devices the installation should be immediate, on some hardware/operating systems you’ll need an
internet connection and for the drivers to be automatically downloaded by the host system.
Should you find you can’t control your device yet, try pairing the USB dongle and remote control. Hold down the OK and
Home buttons on the front of the remote control. Make sure the device with the USB dongle is already turned on, or at
least supplying power to the USB socket!
If you want to change the sensitivity of the Air Mouse, please bring up the list of installed Android apps, and select Settings.
If you see a monochrome like background, and a long list on the left, click “Language and Input”. Scroll the right hand
section of the screen until you see Pointer Speed. Click on it, and select your desired speed and click OK. If your Settings
screen is colourful, select the last tab on the right and then click the More Settings button. Should your Settings screen be
monochrome with a network of tiles, please click the More Settings tile (normally second row down) option, then the
Language & input entry.
The remote control’s red standby button at the bottom can be taught to mimic an infrared remote control function. You
could train the VIP Plus remote to use it as a Standby button for your DroidBOX, or change the Source selection on your TV. To
teach the VIP Plus remote a command, line up the top of the two remotes on a stable surface. To achieve this, hold down
both the Home and the red programmable power button together (see the table for button assignments). Both LEDs will
flash for a moment, once they stop, press (once) the button on the other remote that you want to teach the VIP Plus
remote to mimic. You may need to repeat this a couple of times until both LEDs flash again to confirm success.
