Paper towels and napkins
- They are used for heating and short term
decks; these absorb excess moisture and prevent splashing. Do not use
recycled paper towels, which may contain metal and may be lit.
Bowls and glasses made of glass and vitrocerámica
- Used for heating
or cooking.
Plates and paper cups
- Use for short term heating at low temperatures.
Do not use recycled paper, which may contain metal and may light up.
Wax paper
- Use as a cover to avoid splashing.
Thermometers
- Use only those labeled "Microwave Safe" and follow all
instructions. Check the food in several places. Conventional thermometers
can be used in microwave foods once the food has been removed from the
oven.
Aluminum foil
- Use narrow strips of foil to prevent overcooking of
exposed areas. Using too much foil can damage your oven, so be careful.
Keep the 1 inch (2.54 cm) distance between the aluminum foil and the
cavity.
Ceramics, porcelain and stoneware
- Use these if they are labeled
"Microwave Safe". If they are not labeled, try them to make sure they can
be safely used.
Plastic
- Use only if it is marked "Safe Microwave". Other plastics can melt.
NOT RECOMMENDED
• Glass Bottles and Bottles -
Regular glass is too thin to be used in a
microwave. It may rupture and cause damage and injury
.
• Paper bags -
These are a fire hazard, except for popcorn bags that are
designed for microwave use.
• Styrofoam plates and cups -
These can melt and leave unhealthy
residues in food.
• Storage of plastic and food containers -
Containers, such as margarine
tubs, can be melted in the microwave.
• Metal utensils -
can damage the oven. Remove all metal before cooking.
Note:
If you want to check if a dish is safe for the microwave, place the empty
dish in the oven and microwave in HIGH for 30 seconds. You should not
use a dish that gets too hot.
