Removing the Blades for Replacement or Sharpening
Tools and Supplies Needed:
3/4" Socket
Ratchet with Extension
Torque Wrench
Block of Wood
Gloves
IMPORTANT:
You will need a torque wrench to install the blade properly. If you
do not have a torque wrench or are uncomfortable performing this procedure,
contact us at www.DRpower.com.
Examine the blade whenever you run out of gasoline. If the blade is damaged or
cracked, replace it immediately. If the blade edge is dull or nicked, have it
sharpened or replace it.

Remove the Belt Cover as described in “Idler Arm Lubrication” steps 1 thru
3.

Support the Mower with Blocks or a Jack Stand to gain access under the
Deck.
3.
Use a block of wood between the Blade and Deck to hold the blade from
turning (
Figure 26
).
4.
Remove Bolt, Blade, and Spindle Cap.
IMPORTANT:
Make sure in the following step that you position the curved ends
of the blade pointing up toward the mower housing.
5.
Position the Spindle Cap (groove facing up) and Blade (bent ends facing up)
onto the Shaft and secure with the Bolt (
Figure 27
).
6.
Hold the Pulley Locknut at the top side of the Deck with a 3/4" Socket so the
Bolts can be torqued in the next step (
Figure 28
). The Pulley will rotate if the
Pulley Bolt is not held while tightening.
7.
Secure the Blade Bolt using a torque wrench to tighten the Bolt to 55 ft-lb
(74.6 Nm).
8.
Reinstall the Belt Cover when finished.

The blade is sharp; contacting the blade can result in serious personal injury. Wear gloves when servicing the blade.
