The aid of an attendant stabilizing the wheelchair is recommended for maximum safety. Wheelchair passengers who are
unable to maintain stability and balance should not board a ramp without assistance. Counterbalance devices (anti-tippers)
may be available from the wheelchair vendor to enhance stability and balance.
Attendants assisting in the embarkation or disembarkation of manual wheelchairs MUST ALWAYS make sure that they are fit
and strong enough
to push up the weight of the wheelchair and its occupant when going up the ramp;
to hold back, slow down or stop the weight of the wheelchair and its occupant when coming down the ramp;
without slipping or falling down.
If in doubt, DO NOT continue. Seek help. Make sure all persons involved follow the safety instructions carefully.
ALWAYS keep the wheelchair in the centre of the platform.
