5 Ca lib ra ting the pH-elec tro de
5.1 Pur po se of ca lib ra ti on
Any me a su ring in stru ment can on ly be as ac cu ra te as the con nec ted sen sor. The pH-elec tro de is
thus a vi tal ly im port ant part of the pH me a su ring de vi ce.
As the set ting of any pH-elec tro de may drift in the cour se of time, in or der to en su re a con stant -
ly high qua li ty of me a sure ment re sults it is vi tal to ca lib ra te the pH-elec tro de on a re gu lar ba sis.
5.2 Pre pa ring for the ca lib ra ti on pro cess

For op ti mum ca lib ra ti on va lues, the ca lib ra ti on so lu ti ons should have a tem pe ra tu re of 20-25 °C.
Pour pH 7, pH 4 ca lib ra ting so lu ti on and dis til led wa ter in to the ap pro pria te cham bers of the
ca lib ra ting sta ti on up to the fil ling mark.
5.3 Ca lib ra ti on pro ce du re
The user-fri end ly ca lib ra ti on pro cess pro vi des for swift, re li ab le and con ve ni ent ca lib ra ti on of the
pH-elec tro de:
• Rin se elec tro de brief ly in dis til led wa ter.
• Place elec tro de in
pH 7 ca lib ra ting so lu ti on

• Wait ap prox. 1 mi nu te for the elec tro de to adapt to the ca lib ra ting so lu ti on.
Adap ta ti on is com ple te when the dis play ed me a sure ment va lue no lon ger al ters.
(No te: When ca lib ra ting with pH 7 for the first time af ter ini ti al start-up of the de vi ce, "E" will
be shown on the dis play, in stead of a me a sure ment va lue. One ca lib ra ti on pro cess re qui res to
be car ried out suc cess ful ly in or der to dis play the me a sure ment va lue).
• Press key "pH 7" : The yel low LED fla shes, the de vi ce now ca lib ra tes au to ma ti cal ly at pH 7,
the dis play shows "E 7".

• When pH 7 has be en suc cess ful ly ca lib ra ted, the LED will go off and "7.00" will ap pe ar on the
dis play. The LED on key "pH 4" now lights up.

This com ple tes the ca lib ra ti on pro cess. Rin se the pH-elec tro de with a litt le dis til led wa ter and hang
in the aqua ri um in the elec tro de hol der. The ca lib ra ti on pro cess ta kes around 5 to 10 mi nu tes,
de pen ding on the con di ti on of the pH-elec tro de. Dis po se of used ca lib ra ting so lu ti on. Rin se out
ca lib ra ting sta ti on with tap wa ter and dry with kit chen pa per to avo id sca le re si du es.
The pH-Con trol ler is now rea dy for use.
The dis play shows the cur rent pH va lue in the aqua ri um.
