3. SETTING UP THE APPLIANCE
Please note!
• The first time you use the appliance, rinse with hot water
all removable accessories which may come into contact
with water or milk.
• The first time you use the machine, the water circuit is
empty and the appliance could be very noisy. The noise
becomes less as the circuit fills.
• Possible traces of coffee in the mill are the result of ope-
rating tests performed on the appliance before sale, proof
of the meticulous care and attention we invest in our
products.
Proceed as follows:
1. Remove the water tank (A11), fill to the MAX line with
fresh water (fig. 1A) then put back in the appliance (fig.
1B).
2. Check that the hot water spout (D6) is inserted on the
connection nozzle (A18) and place a container holding a
minimum of 100ml underneath (fig. 2).
3. Connect the appliance to the mains supply (fig. 3).
4. The lights
(B11) and
(B22) come on (fig. 4).
5. Press the
button (C6): The appliance delivers water
from the spout then goes off automatically.
6. The appliance goes off.
7. The coffee machine is now ready for normal use.
Please note!
• The first time you use the appliance, you need to make 4-5
cappuccinos before it starts to give satisfactory results.
• To enjoy your coffee even more and improve the perfor-
mance of your appliance, we recommend installing a water
softener filter (D4) as described in section “13. Water soft-
ener filter (D4, if present)”. If your model is not provided
with a filter, you can request one from De'Longhi customer
services.
4. TURNING THE APPLIANCE ON
Please note!
• Each time the appliance is turned on, it performs an au-
tomatic preheat and rinse cycle which cannot be interrup-
ted. The appliance is ready for use only once this cycle is
complete.
• Whenever you turn the appliance on or off, we recommend
collecting the rinse water in a container to avoid having to
empty the drip tray frequently.
During rinsing, a little hot water comes out of the coffee spouts
(A17) and is collected in the drip tray (A12) underneath.
Avoid contact with splashes of water.
• To turn the appliance on, press the
button (C1) (fig.
5). The
light (B18) flashes to indicate the appliance
is heating up and performing an automatic rinse cycle. By
circulating hot water, the appliance heats both the boiler
and the internal circuits.
The appliance is ready when the main screen appears.
5. TURNING THE APPLIANCE OFF
The appliance goes off automatically if not used for 30 minutes.
Whenever the coffee machine is turned off after being used to
make coffee, it performs an automatic rinse cycle.
Danger of burns!
During rinsing, a little hot water flows from the coffee spouts
(A17). Avoid contact with splashes of water
To turn the appliance off (standby), press the
button (C1)
(fig. 5). The appliance performs a rinse cycle then goes off.
Please note:
• Whenever you turn the appliance on or off, we recommend
collecting the rinse water in a container to avoid having to
empty the drip tray frequently.
• If you will not be using the appliance for some time, we
recommend unplugging it from the mains supply.
Important!
Always turn the appliance off with the
button (standby)
before unplugging it from the mains supply.
6. SETTING WATER HARDNESS
The
light (B15, descaling) is displayed after a period of time
established according to water hardness.
The machine is set by default for a hardness level of 4.
The machine can also be programmed according to the hardness
of the mains water in the various regions so that the machine
needs to be descaled less often.
6.1 Measuring water hardness
1. Some models include an indicator paper (D1), attached
to the English instructions. If the indicator paper is not in-
cluded with your model, contact Customer Services to buy
one.
2• Immerse the paper completely in a glass of water for one
second;
3. Remove the paper from the water and shake lightly. After
about a minute, 1, 2, 3, or 4 red squares form, depending
on the hardness of the water. Each square corresponds to 1
level.
6.2 Setting water hardness
1. With the appliance on, press and hold the button
(C3)
for about 6 seconds until the
light (B15) comes on.
