Dual-Processor Capability 

With the installation of a second processor SEC cartridge in the secondary 
SEC cartridge connector on the system board, the computer becomes a dual-
processing system. The second processor must be the same type and frequency 
as the first processor. To take advantage of two processors, dual-processing 
systems must have multiprocessing operating systems, such as the Microsoft

®

 

Windows NT

®

 4.0 operating system.

Advanced Expansion Subsystem  

The Dell WorkStation 400 systems offer advanced expansion subsystems that 
can support a mixture of traditional ISA expansion cards (called legacy cards), 
Plug and Play ISA expansion cards, and PCI expansion cards. The operating 
system or the ISA Configuration Utility (ICU), included with the system, pro-
vides a means of avoiding resource conflicts that might arise from such an 
arrangement.
