
Setting Up a Wireless Local Area Network
The following are general requirements for setting up a WLAN:
Broadband Internet connection (such as cable or DSL)
A broadband modem
A wireless router
A wireless network adapter for each computer that you want to connect to your WLAN
A network cable with network (RJ-45) connectors
To set up WLAN:
Windows 7 and Windows Vista
1. Set up your wireless router. See the documentation that shipped with the wireless router.

in the search box, and then click
Network and Sharing Center
→
Set up a new connection or network
→
Connect to the Internet
.
The
Connect to the Internet
window appears.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Windows XP
1. Set up your wireless router. See the documentation that shipped with the wireless router.
2. Click
Start
, and then click
Control Panel
.
3. In windows classic view, double-click
Network Connections
.
4. Click
Create a new connection
.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Checking Your Wireless Network Card
NOTE:
To confirm that your computer has a wireless network card and to determine the type of card, check the order confirmation that you received
when you ordered your computer.
Windows 7 and Windows Vista

and select
Properties
.
2. Under
Tasks,
click
Device Manager
.
3. Click
Network Adapters

Windows XP
1. Click
Start
