Drive Module Installation
• • • WARNING • • •
HIGH VOLTAGE Drive Modules contain high voltage when connected to AC mains input power. Only qualified
personnel should perform installation, start up, and maintenance. Failure to perform installation, start up, and
maintenance by qualified personnel could result in death or serious injury.
• • • WARNING • • •
UNINTENDED START When the drive module is connected to AC mains, the motor may start at any time. The
drive module, motor, and any driven equipment must be in operational readiness. Failure to be in operational
readiness when the drive module is connected to AC mains could result in death, serious injury, equipment, or
property damage.
• • • WARNING • • •
DISCHARGE TIME Drive Modules contain DC-link capacitors that can remain charged even when the drive
module is not powered. To avoid electrical hazards, disconnect AC mains, any permanent magnet type motors,
and any remote DC-link power supplies, including battery back-up, Universal Power Supply (UPS), and DC-link
connections to other drive modules. Wait for the capacitors to fully discharge before performing any service
or repair work. Wait time is a minimum of 20 minutes and voltage level of DC bus voltage should be checked
and confirmed as 0 to allow safe access. Failure to wait the specified time after power has been removed before
doing service or repair could result in death or serious injury.

NOTE
Before performing the installation, it is important to plan the installation of the drive module; neglecting this
may result in extra work during and after installation
Select the best possible operation site by considering the following:
• Adequate service clearance and air access
• Rigging and mounting methods
• Position of the drive module
• Cable routing and bend radius’s
Before unpacking the drive module:
1. Confirm that the packaging is intact; if any
damage has occurred, immediately contact the
shipping company to file a shipping/freight
damage claim.
2. Ensure that it is located as close as possible to
the final installation site
On the compressor nameplate, verify that the
model number matches the purchase order
Assess each of the following modules to ensure
that they have the same voltage rating:
• Mains power
• Drive Module
• Motor
• Verify that drive module model matches the
corresponding compressor model.
The frequency converters are equipped with
cooling fans to provide airflow along the heat
sink. Units have a fan mounted in the enclosure
door to provide more airflow to the unit. The
following conditions turn fans on:
• Output current greater than 60% of nominal
• IGBT over temperature
• IGBT low temperature
• Control card over temperature
In addition to the abovementioned conditions,
the fans automatically start shortly after mains
input power is applied to the drive module.
Once fans are started, they run for a minimum
of one minute.
