The Danfoss COMM-EL kit contains:
1. One Lantronxi UDS-10 device server.
2. One AKC55-MPM piggyback power supply
board.
3. One 95-05RS232 wiring harness (AKC 55 to
modem).
4. One 2-conductor power cord for the UDS-10
device server with a white Molex-type connector on
one end and a round power connector for the
device server on the other end.
Connection to the netwoerk is typically made with
CAT-5 cable and an RJ-45 connector that are not
supplied in the COMM-EL kit. These should be
obtained according to the advice of your IT support
department.
Mounting and wiring
Mount the AKC55-MPM piggyback power supply
board board at the top right hand corner of the
AKC55PS board (often called the “PS/COMM
board”) at position J13, which is a 3-position terminal
strip labeled Modem Pwr.
1. Mount the Lantronix UDS-10 device server on a flat
surface
2. From the upper right hand corner of the PS/COMM
board, remove the #6 nut with its attached star lock
washer. Loosen the three screws in the J13 terminal
strip and slide the metal prongs of the MPM board
down behind the screws (two behind each). Re-
tighten the screws.
3. Replace the nut and re-tighten. This is an important
step to stabilize the assembly.
4. Plug the white male Molex-type connector of the
power cord into the connector at the bottom of
MPM board. Orient the connector so that the clip is
at the top. (The top pin is negative; the bottom pin is
positive.)
5. Plug the round end of the power cord into the UDS-
10 at the location labeled 9-30vdc.
6. Identify the two parts of the 95-05RS232
(COMM8) communication cable:
a. A ten-foot (3 m) flat, gray, 8-conductor cable
with an RJ-45 connector on one end and a 26-
pin keyed connector on the other.
b. An RJ-45 adapter that fits the 25-pin female
connector labeled Serial on the UDS-10.
Note that only seven pins are used (of a
possible 25).
7. Plug the RJ-45 connector into the adapter and insert
the adapter into the connector labeled Serial on the
UDS-10.
8. Insert the 26-pin keyed connector into the corre-
sponding socket at J8 near the top left corner of the
AKC55PS (PS/COMM) board.
Configuration
When mouunting and wiring is complete, both the
device server and the AKC 55 must be configured.
Device server configuration
1. Attach the UDS-10 device server to your
computer’s serial port using a serial cable (and
appropriate adapters if needed) from the connector
labeled Serial on the UDS-10 to a serial port on
your PC.
2. Run Windows HyperTerminal or another terminal
program to establish communications between your
PC and the device server. The UDS-10 originally
comes configured for 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop
bit, and no parity. You may need to change from
9600 to other speeds to get readable text on your
screen.
3. To enter the Setup/configuration mode, remove and
restore power to the device server while holding
down the lowercase x key on your PC.
4. Confirm that the device server is in setup mode by
pressing the ENTER key. If necessary, repeat step 3.
5. Select 0 (Server configuration) from the Change
Setup Menu. Enter:
IP address
nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn
Gateway address
nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn
Netmask: number of bits for host
8
Change telnet config password

The numbers represented above by nnn, etc., should
be obtained form your IT support department.
To enable DHCP, set IP address to 0.0.0.0
To enable BOOTP, set IP address to 0.0.2.0
6. Now select 1(Channel 1 configuration) from the
Change Setup Menu, and enter:
