2  Product Feature Status

2.1  DSN-3200/3400 Features

The following features are the new features included in the V1.4.0 release:

2.1.1  Ability to have multiple IP Addresses in the same subnet

The previous DSN-3200/3400 firmware required that each of the IP addresses assigned to any of the data
path LAGs and the out-of-band management port all have unique subnets.

This release removes that restriction allowing multiple IP addresses within the same subnet to be
configured. The data ports and the out-of-band port may be configured to be within the same subnet.
Therefore, on a DSN-3200 8-port product, up to 9 IP addresses may be configured all within the same
subnet.

2.1.2  Each subnet will contain a default route

The previous DSN-3200/3400 firmware only supported 1 default IP route for all of the subnets configured.
This default route is configured while configuring the out-of-band management port.

The 1.4.0 release supports a default route for each unique subnet configured within the DSN-3200/3400.

2.1.3  Management Console enhancements

The configuration of a network portal in the management console has been enhanced to allow the
specification of a default route in addition to the IP address and netmask.

2.1.4  Read-Only support for each volume

The release allows the user to configure each volume to be read-only. When a volume is configured in
read-only mode, the SCSI layer will set the “WP” bit in the DEVICE-SPECIFIC PARAMETER field in the
mode parameter header.

When the volume is configured in read-only mode, multiple servers that contain a filesystem that supports
read-only will have the capability of mounting the volume.  This capability eliminates the need for a SAN
filesystem for the read-only configuration.

2.1.5  NO-OP the SCSI Sync Cache command with Apple

The release allows the user to configure each volume to no-op the SCSI Sync Cache command. This
feature is to support video applications from an Apple Macintosh.  When using an Apple, the file-system by
default enables a journaling feature.  This journaling feature regularly issues the sync cache command after
updating its journal.  When the system has cached a large amount of write data, the sync cache command
will take a considerable amount of time to complete. This causes video applications to drop frames because
of the increased latency of I/O commands.
