Connecting a power amplifier/speakers
The Classic PRE requires an external power amplifier to
drive the system loudspeakers. The Classic PRE can also be
connected to active speakers which have built-in amplifiers.
Two types of output connection are provided - balanced
via XLR connectors and unbalanced via phono connectors.
Either or both connections can be used.
Phono output connection is recommended for shorter cable
runs to power amplifiers located near to the Classic PRE.
Balanced output connection is preferred for longer cable
runs to amplifiers with balanced inputs or to active speakers.
Balanced connection
Balanced connection is shown in the example diagram
below with dual mono power amplifiers and bi-wired
speaker connection.
•
Connect a balanced XLR interconnect from the
‘BALANCED PRE OUT’ sockets to the balanced inputs of
the power amplifier.
Ensure left and right channels are correctly connected.
